What to expect

The dentist checks the tooth and bite, discusses less invasive options and may remove a small amount of tooth surface before taking an impression or scan and bonding the veneer.

Veneers may be made from porcelain or composite material.

Porcelain veneers generally involve irreversible removal of some tooth tissue.

A veneer can chip, fracture or need replacement over time.

Is veneers available on the NHS?

Veneers are generally private when requested for appearance alone. They may be available on the NHS only when clinically necessary.

Ask which parts are NHS and which are private, what alternatives are available, and what you will pay. Your dentist should explain material risks and the expected aftercare.
