This policy describes the current Dentist Finder UK website, a free independent directory for dental practices in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Wales is not included in the directory. It applies to visitors, search users, patient reviewers and people who send an availability report.
1. Who is responsible
Dentist Finder UK is operated by Go Lead Generation Ltd (company number 12436075). Its registered office is 128 City Road, London, United Kingdom, EC1V 2NX.
We are the controller for information we decide how to use on this website. Some infrastructure and linked services process network requests under their own arrangements; this policy does not replace their policies.
2. Information the site handles
- Searches: a location or postcode and radius can appear in the URL and browser history. Application query state is held in memory. If you allow browser geolocation, your coordinates are sent to our API and included in the search URL. Device-location permission is separate from consent to any other use of your data.
- Lookups and maps: server-side postcode lookups go to Postcodes.io, with postcode results cached in memory for up to 24 hours. Mapping requests go to OpenStreetMap. Loading Google Fonts sends normal network metadata, which can include your IP address, to that provider. A directions link opens Google Maps only when you click it; practice websites are separate external sites.
- Reviews: we store the associated practice, an optional display name (defaulting to “Anonymous patient”), a rating from 1–5, a comment and a submission date. Your display name, rating, comment and date appear publicly on the practice page. Reviews submitted on practice pages are stored separately and displayed as patient feedback; they are not official NHS ratings and are not presented as medically reviewed. Reviews are stored in the application database and there is no automated expiry currently. We do not require an account, collect an email for a review, or take payment.
- Community reports: Patients can submit a report through a practice page. The API acknowledges the submission, but it does not currently change the imported status or persist the report in the directory. A report request identifies the practice, status and optional note; it is handled in the request, not saved as a report. Operational error logs may contain validation details.
- Technical storage: the page-loading recovery feature uses session storage under the key
dentist-finder:module-recovery, containing a path and timestamp. It guards a retry for 60 seconds, clears after a successful load or when the tab closes, and is not a tracking identifier. The application does not use localStorage for this feature.
Please do not put sensitive health details, contact details, or information identifying children or other people in a review or report.
3. Why we use information
We use requests and technical information to operate, secure and improve the directory, answer searches, prevent misuse and diagnose failures. Our legitimate interests include operating a useful public directory, displaying public patient feedback and maintaining security. We use publicly submitted review content to display patient feedback. Permission for device location is used only for the location search you request; allowing it is not required to use postcode search. We may also use information where needed to meet a legal obligation or respond to a lawful request.
4. Services and retention
We use Replit for hosting and an application database to store reviews. The in-memory postcode cache lasts up to 24 hours. Reviews do not expire automatically; you can request correction or removal using the contact details below. Operational logs are handled by our hosting services, whose retention periods may differ. External map, font, postcode, directions and practice-site providers receive requests when their feature is used and may handle network metadata under their own policies.
5. Your choices and rights
Under UK data protection law, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, object to or restrict processing, and to data portability where applicable. You can ask us to correct or remove a review or other information by post using the address below. We may need enough detail to identify the content and may need to balance a request against legal duties or the rights of others. You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
For privacy questions, corrections, or removal requests, write to Go Lead Generation Ltd at 128 City Road, London, United Kingdom, EC1V 2NX. Please say which page or information you mean and what you want changed.
6. Changes
We may update this policy when the site or its processing changes. The date at the top of this document identifies the current version.
